About ...

The gist of the following shows that I am fundamentally, and have always have been     
 
    interested in health and the human body as a web of the human spirit. 
    The stuff below represents parts of a life's journey.
It is mostly intended for institutions searching for an instructor/presenter.

leaf Nationally Certified for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work since 2002. 
Maintain annual CEUs and professional memberships.
leaf Have taught T'ai Chi and/or Yoga at Peninsula Regional Medical Center (Salisbury, Maryland) since 1998. Other teaching positions include Atlantic General Hospital (Berlin, Maryland), Deers Head State Hospital (Salisbury, Maryland), Dove Pointe Center for the mentally and Developmentally Disabled, Berlin Rehab and Nursing,  Worcester County Parks and Recreation Department, Wicomico County Parks and Recreation Department and many other eastern shore community locations.

leaf Studying T'ai Chi since 1989 and was included in a 1991 instructional video, "T'ai Chi Chuan - Learn at Home with Dr. Ben Fusaro". The production has been re-named and re-released as a DVD titled "T'ai Chi One".  This DVD can be borrowed from our local county libraries.

leaf Presenter/Speaker for five years in a row (t'aiji/ancient health arts) at Atlantic General Hospital's Annual Health Conference when it was held at the Ocean City Convention Center, and demonstrator in 2009 at the Stephen Decatur location. Continue to be on the "Visions for Total Health" committee at Atlantic General Hospital as a community-input participant.  Have also participated in other associative health events for community and staff over the years.  

leaf 24 years dancing, performing and choreographing at Salisbury University, Salisbury, Maryland; first as a student, then as a community member. Favorite Genres: Modern, Post Modern, Contact, African, and yes, Appalachian Clogging.

leaf Have spent many years on-and-off teaching social dance classes with past-Rockette, Shirley Meeks (retired 2009). Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Rumba, ...

leaf Many years of membership and attendance at conferences/conventions with MAHPERD (Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), one year as a presenter; AAHPERD (Atlantic Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance); and the Maryland Dance Council.

leaf Maintain annual CEUs (Continuing Education Units) with AFPA (American Fitness Professionals Association) and a plethora of studies with independent teachers and masters of T'ai Chi, yoga, fitness, massage, holistic and inclusive health, and energy work.  

leaf Certified as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) in 1984. Practiced as a volunteer assistant in the Emergency Department at Peninsula Regional for two years.

leaf Hold 'Certification of Completion' for 90 hour Physical Therapy Aid course.  There is no 'P.T. Aid designation in Maryland.   

leaf Certified to teach Hatha Yoga and Yamuna Body Rolling (a self-massage and physical maintenance practice.)

leaf Hold Certifications of Completion for National Certification for Personal Trainer, YMCA and NCSF (National Council on Strength and Fitness.)

leaf Co-published "The Salisbury Holistic Community Newsletter" during its two year existence.

leaf Have done a lot of running including a number of foot marathons; plenty of Bike centuries and metric-centuries.  These experiences help me relate to a wide variety body needs and fitness levels. 

leaf Worked 15 years at Peninsula Regional Medical Center with medical insurance and medical records.  One year working in our Satellite Dr. Offices.  Worked-out in the Cardiac Rehab Department (developed by Jeanne Ruff) most of my lunch times and/or after work; a near and dear experience.  Represented our department as a reviewer/tester for annual JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) preparations.  Member of the Hospital Fire Brigade most of those years with Respiratory Protection and fire training at U.M.E.S.  Member of the Hospital Disaster Team which formed in the latter years of my PRMC affiliation.

leaf In the off season (winter for me), try to do some yoga/taiji travel-teaching in warmer climates, usually Mexico or the Caribbean.

leaf In winter 2007, participated in a medical mission to three villages in Cameroon, Africa, sponsored by ANM.

leaf Liberal Studies major with a Social Work Minor and Dance Concentration. A potential second degree in Business Administration lacking the 40 hour per week unpaid internship.
 

leaf Worked for the Campus Health Clinic as college work-study, much of the time as a pharmacy tech before certification was required.  (That job changed my mind about the pharmacist goal.)  Worked for the campus-based Planned Parenthood office part-time three years beyond undergrad.  First full-time job: selling durable medical equipment and oxygen with Apple Drug's predecessor.
